Fashola has been ask to Quit by the Senate, IF

The Senate on Wednesday accused the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), of misleading the public and blackmailing it over the manipulations made by the lawmakers in the 2017 Appropriation Act.

The upper chamber asked Fashola to resign his appointment if he was overwhelmed by the volume of work at his ministry.

At the plenary, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje said, “Fashola should know that he is dealing with the National Assembly of Nigeria, not of Lagos. If the job is too much for him – the ministry is too big; it comprises three ministries, which are works, housing and power; if he cannot adjust, then, he should do the honourable thing. He should so the needful.

Antonio Rudiger deal to Chelsea from Roma agree

Chelsea and Roma have agreed a deal for central defender Antonio Rudiger, Sky sources understand.

Rudiger helped Germany win the Confederations Cup in Russia earlier this month. It is thought the player will take a medical in Los Angeles this week, with the transfer figure potentially rising to £34m.

The 24-year-old moved to Roma from Stuttgart initially on a season-long loan deal in August 2015 before making the move permanent the following season for 7.6m.

Personal terms still have to be discussed but it appears that Rudiger will become a Chelsea player ahead of the new Premier League season.

Chelsea are in need of defensive reinforcements following the departures of Nathan Ake and John Terry to Bournemouth and Aston Villa respectively.

Atletico's Antoine Griezmann unsure on future Man Utd move

Antoine Griezmann admits he is unsure of his long-term future, but says he felt like he had to stay at Atletico Madrid this summer because of their transfer ban.

Griezmann was widely linked with a move to Manchester United before signing a new deal with Atletico until 2021.

He said at the time that it would have been a "dirty move" to leave after Atletico's transfer ban was upheld, meaning they cannot sign new players until January.

And he has told FourFourTwo: "I have stayed mainly because of the transfer ban. Atletico needed me now more than ever and I felt I had to stay. It would be dirty to leave. I wouldn't have been myself, or the person that I feel I am today, if I had left this club in that way.

The France international denied that he had called United manager Jose Mourinho to let him know his decision, saying: "No, no, no. No, that's totally made up. False. It was my decision. I communicated it to the club. That's it."

While Griezmann is set to stay with Atletico this summer, he refused to be drawn on whether he will join United next year.

Man Utd's pursuit for Morata rejected as Real Madrid demand €90m

Manchester United have failed in their latest attempt to sign Alvaro Morata with Real Madrid holding out for €90m (£79m) for the striker, as per reports.

The Red Devils have made the Spain international their number one target as they seek to strengthen their striking department ahead of the 2017/18 season.

United have been in lengthy talks with Real over a deal, with manager Jose Mourinho keen to land Morata, 24, for the beginning of the club's pre-season tour of the United States next week.

However, although United have increased their offer from €70m (£61.5m) to €80m (£70.2m), Real have rejected the bid as they look to make a significant profit on Morata.

Morata, who scored 20 goals in all competitions as Real lifted both La Liga and the Champions League last season, re-joined the club from Juventus last summer for €32m

The 29-year-old, formerly of Benfica, has secured a temporary switch to their great Portuguese rivals in a bid to get his career back on track.

In a picture with his family taken from Sporting's Estadio Jose Alvalade stadium, he wrote: "Very happy to have the opportunity to play for this great club."

Real's statement read: "Real Madrid C.F. and Sporting Clube de Portugal have agreed the loan of the player Fabio Coentrao until 30 June 2018."

Coentrao won one Primeira Liga and two Taca da Liga titles during his time at Sporting's arch rivals Benfica before joining Real for €30m in 2011.

A bus powered by formic acid could hit the road this year

Summarized News Update

Students from the Eindhoven University of Technology, Team FAST, are now throwing their hats into the ring with a design for the first ever system that allows a bus to drive on formic acid. Their system, officially unveiled on 6 July, comprises an electric bus hooked up to a small trailer (nicknamed 'REX', for 'range-extender'), where formic acid is converted into electricity.

Team FAST uses a blend of 99% formic acid with a performance enhancing agent to create Hydrozine -- which has four times as much energy density as a battery -- to power the bus. The CO2 produced in splitting the hydrozine is used during the electricity-making process, so it's completely carbon neutral.

House Begins Public Hearing on Anti-Grazing Bill in Taraba

Stakeholders have unanimously agreed that the Taraba state Anti Open Grazing and Ranching Development Bill will reduce the spread of diseases in animals, increase the production of meat and milk, reduce conflicts between farmers and herdsmen and curb the straying of animals into farms, among others.
This was agreed upon during the opening of the public hearing on the bill in Jalingo Tuesday.
During its presentation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Isaac Mela, noted that ranching was the best practice the world over as practiced in Kenya, Brazil, South Africa and America.
He added that modern ways of pasture production would be provided which would be useful in both rainy and dry season.
He however advised that sensitization and public enlightenment should be done on the bill, revealing that the nine grazing reserves in the state have been encroached by farmers on the excuse that they have not been compensated and therefore advised government to pay compensation, acquire the lands and demarcate some for ranches and some others to grow pasture.
Also towing along that line, Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bello Yero, was confident that ranching will promote international best practices in livestock production.
He noted that the lack of proper public enlightenment had resulted to different ‘narratives’.
He therefore suggested that a six month window period should be provided when the bill is passed into Law for graziers to prepare their ranches and for government to put all necessary machineries on ground.
Yero also insisted that the enlightenment must go on despite the attempt by mischief makers to misinform the public about the bill.
However, in his response, the Chairman of the Committee, Mark Useni, regretted that a ‘counterfeit copy’ of the bill was circulated by mischievous persons which was aimed at misinforming the public about the bill.
He therefore cautioned those in that habit to desist from such acts.
Other presenters at the public hearing were the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Muslim Council, Farmers Protection Association of Nigeria, the Jalingo Development Association, Northern states Christian Elders Forum and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jalingo chapter, who questioned the title of the bill, attributing the opposition to Bill by some sections of the society to the title which they believe, succeeded in sending a negative message.
A stakeholder, Alhaji Aboki, who spoke last complained of the practicability of the bill, saying the terrain in most parts of Taraba was not conducive for ranching.
According to him, apart from Sardauna where ranching is being practiced, the remaining 15 LGAs could not produce pasture all year round for the cattle.
Earlier on, Speaker of the House, Abel Peter Diah, while declaring the occasion open, stated that the House represents “the essence of democracy” and would do nothing inimical to the interest of the people and that the bill was not targeted at any group.
According to him, the bill would promote the best standard practices in dairy production.

Legal status to be granted to African migrants in Algeria

Summarized News Update:

Algeria plans to grant residency rights and job permits to illegal African migrants amid a shortage of workers in farming and construction and after a surge in racist sentiment across the country.

Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune's plan follows the launch of an anonymous online campaign that blames African migrants for taking jobs and spreading the HIV virus that causes AIDS.

To determine the number of beneficiaries of the scheme, the interior ministry is organising a census while security services will screen potential residency candidates. "They will get a residency document which will allow them to get a job," Tebboune told politicians on Friday night. He gave no further details on the scheme.

Uganda Govt. set strict drees code for civil servants in new Govt rules

Summarized News Update

Uganda civil servants face strict dress code in new government rules
Public servants in Uganda are facing a strict dress code after the government issued a circular warning them to "dress decently". Female staff have been told not to show any cleavage, wear braids or hair extensions, sleeveless blouses or any clothing made out of see-through material.

Men must wear long-sleeved shirts, jackets and ties, and loose trousers. Staff failing to comply will be disciplined. The guidelines, issued by the Ministry of Public Service apply to all non-uniformed civil servants. But there is a feeling that female staff are the main focus on the new rules.

While women will be allowed to wear pant-suits, they have been warned not to wear any tight-fitting clothing. Dresses and skirts must at least be knee-length.

Catalonia to split from Spain within 48 hours of secession vote

Summarized News Update:

Catalonia will declare independence from Spain within 48 hours if voters back secession in an October referendum, according to a draft bill proposed by secessionist parties on Tuesday, though it remains unclear whether the vote will go ahead.

Spain's Constitutional Court and the conservative government in Madrid have blocked previous secessionist challenges and the government has said it will block any further attempt to hold a referendum.

According to the bill, written jointly by the parties which favor secession, the referendum will pose a binary question asking voters whether they want Catalonia, a wealthy region in northeastern Spain, to become an independent nation.

Catalonia's regional government has said that while details of the bill will be debated in the coming weeks, a formal draft will not be sent to the Catalan legislature until August in an effort to forestall the Constitutional Court blocking the legislation.

On Monday Puigdemont fired a senior member of his government for expressing doubt over the viability of plans to hold the referendum, highlighting tensions between different elements of the governing pro-independence coalition.

Federal prosecutors said in a statement that Lima tried to silence former lower house Speaker Eduardo Cunha and broker Lucio Funaro, who worked as fundraisers for Temer's centrist Brazilian Democratic Movement Party. Prosecutors accuse Lima of paying hush money.

In his decision ordering Lima's arrest, federal judge Vallisney de Souza Oliveira said he could be hiding up to $6m in alleged bribe money from Funaro. The probe focused on Lima's time as vice president of state-run bank Caixa Economica Federal between 2011 and 2013, when investigators believe he fraudulently channeled funds to politicians.

Nigeria Sharia Governor caught in scandalous sex Video

Former Yobe Governor Who Introduced Sharia In August 2000 Admits He Is The Person Caught In Scandalous Sex Video

A Nigerian senator has owned up to a scandalous video that showed him dressing up in the presence of two women in a room, presumably after sex.

But Bukar Ibrahim, representing Yobe East Senatorial District, told PREMIUM TIMES in his first interview since the scandal broke that he had not committed any official wrongdoing and the video was only made public after attempts to blackmail him failed.

“This is a personal, private matter. What does my having been with a girl have to do with the public? “You know the normal thing: people ask for unreasonable things, and if you deny them, they try to blackmail you if they have a way,” Mr. Ibrahim, a former governor of Yobe State, said Monday afternoon.

The senator said he owed no one an explanation since he was not accused of any crime. “If they say I raped, that’s a different matter altogether,” Mr. Ibrahim said. “Is it because I am a public official then I am not supposed to be entitled to private life?”

THE FACT NIGERIANS HAVE ABOUT THE MAMBILLA PLATEAU CRISIS IN TARABA STATE

The recent communal clash between the fulani and natives of the Mambilla plateau in Sardauna LG of Taraba State has been perceived to be a point of reference should the Federal Government not take the lives of every Nigerian to be worth protecting. The fact laid bare before the masses, and every patriotic Nigerian will agree to, is that the Federal Government is unfair in its response to similar and obviously more serious crisis in recent times.

Following the clash, the Fulani communities in the area on June 21 pleaded for the intervention of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in what they described as "genocide" being perpetrated against them and the Federal Government, in response to their call, swiftly deployed troops in the area. As part of the Federal Government’s rapid response to the crisis, it dispatched the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to the state.
We are in a day and age wherewith the destination and direction of our collective unity must be defined and cogent steps must be taken to address issues like National stakeholders, rule of law and the concept of nationhood.

No attacks in recent history has received so much attention and lopsided condemnation like the Mambilla upheaval (so called massacre) in Nigeria. Not even that of Southern Kaduna, Zaki Biam or Plateau in recent past, from scholars, politicians and religious leaders.

Is there a battle for supremacy that this ugly event seem to expose? Are some people more important than others? Is the life of any, other than the Fulanis less valuable?

Agitations seem to be brewing from all sides and we still sit to believe that the worst democratic government is better than the best military government (no incitement intended), when decorum and self-respect is at the brink of despondency?

Do we fold our arms and watch effortlessly the disintegration of hard earned independence? Do we sit in abject poverty in the hope that someday, someone from somewhere will emerge as our messiah without personal interest and agenda?

Are we looking up to a political party or rich mogul raised with stolen funds from taxpayers money or from some source we have no idea about rule us to oblivion?
Mambilla is the last untapped treasure of the North and milking her of her decades of peace is endangering Taraba and its environs to a war without end! There is a subtle agenda growing roots for decades and no one seems to be doing anything about it.

Groups, which commented on the Federal Government’s response to the Taraba state crisis, said it was glaring that the government was protecting the killer Fulani.
The President, National Council of Tiv Youths,  Dr. John Akperashi, alleged that the government had a way of rising up to the help of the Fulani whenever the herders appeared to be at the receiving end.
Akperashi added, “Anytime there is a clash with the Fulani herdsmen, especially whenever they are being defeated and over powered, you will see an immediate response from the government. This is what has taken place in the Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.
“That is why you will know that there are certain interests beyond what we see with ordinary eyes. It might be due to religious inclination or for economic benefits. But whatever it is, there should be no preference for the lives of animals over that of human beings.”
The Publicity Secretary of the pan Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, the Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, accused the government of pursuing an “apartheid policy” in favour of the rampaging herdsmen.
He said, “Welcome to apartheid Nigeria, where a group is superior to the others. We have had various attacks by Fulani herdsmen all over the country. Olu Falae, a former Secretary to Government of the Federation, was abducted by herdsmen.
“Cows are chasing children out of schools in Edo and Anambra states, there was no word from the Federal Government.
“But now that the herdsmen had come under attacks in Taraba, the government has deployed police and soldiers there and that tells you that a group is superior to others in Nigeria.”
The Campaign for Democracy and the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights warned the Army not to take sides in its interventions in the crisis in the Sardauna LGA of Taraba State.
The CD President, Usman Abdul, who lamented that the military had been polarised along ethnic lines, said such disposition was a “bad omen” for national security.
Abdul stated, “Unless our military harps on its professionalism, we will continue to be in this situation. Our military has now been divided and polarised along ethnic and regional lines. And it is not a good omen in the fight against internal threats, not to talk of external aggressions.
“What is happening now in Taraba State is not a good omen. You will see that in some previous herdsmen attacks in Nasarawa, there are Army barracks around the communities – one in Lafia and another in Keffi – and also the Air Force base in Makurdi. But these attacks went on and you did not see rapid military responses. This is sad.
“As citizens of this country, we know that what is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. The military must not be found sectionalising or regionalising. This would not go well with our security apparatus.”
The CDHR President, Malachy Ugwummadu, said, “The failure of the government to nip the perennial killings in these communities in the bud leaves a bad taste. This challenge will be compounded if there are noticeable breaches by otherwise professional bodies, such as the military.
“Whether in Taraba or other communities, the fact that some innocent lives can be hacked to death without any arrest made it a sad commentary for our country.”

lack of Manchester United summer signings frustrating José Mourinho

Summarized News Update:

José Mourinho is becoming increasingly frustrated at so far adding only Victor Lindelof to his squad in the transfer window, with the Manchester United manager concerned no more major signings will be in place when the pre-season tour starts on Sunday.

After United won the Europa League final against Ajax in late May, Mourinho publicly stated it was down to Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, to ensure his targets were secured as soon as possible.

Yet six weeks later Mourinho has seen deals for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Real Madrid’s Álvaro Morata stall. The Portuguese remains hopeful the transfers of the midfielder and centre-forward can be secured before Sunday.

However, it is understood that Mourinho will be dismayed if Lindelof, a 22-year-old centre-back, is the only new player who will be on the flight to America and then relations between Mourinho and Woodward could become strained.

Woodward flew to New Zealand to attend the British and Irish Lions first test against the All Blacks at the end of last month and this caused some surprise among Mourinho’s staff.

The Barcelona star has built up quite a reputation over the years , and so perhaps it was no surprise to see a statue of the Uruguayan lying prone on the ground in his country of birth.

The monument, which was in the city of Salto, was toppled on Saturday, while Suarez and others were away at the wedding of his club team-mate Lionel Messi.

While being taken away to be refurbished, a note has been replaced in the spot, stating: ‘I went to Messi’s wedding, I’ll be back soon.’ According to local media, the person responsible for the fallen icon has already been arrested.

John Terry will not play against Chelsea after joining Aston Villa

John Terry has admitted the idea of playing against Chelsea in the Premier League was partly behind his decision to join Aston Villa on a one-year contract.

The 36-year-old defender left Chelsea at the end of last season following two trophy-laden decades at Stamford Bridge, which culminated in Terry lifting the Premier League title last season.

Midlands rivals Birmingham City offered Terry a contract while top-flight clubs Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion were interested in his services.

“The mental side of playing against Chelsea was too much to kind of get over for me,” Terry said at his unveiling at Villa Park on Monday. “It was 22 years and I am very proud of that, I wish Chelsea well next season but now my thoughts are 100% here. I am delighted to be here as a player.

"It is obviously a huge club, I had a few conversations with Steve [Bruce] over the summer. I am very hungry to still play at the top with a club and a manager who still has the same ambition as me."

Morata agent, father hold Real Madrid exit talks at Bernabéu

Summarized News Update:

The representative of Real Madrid striker Álvaro Morata was at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu this lunchtime in a bid to sort out the 24-year-old's future, as per reports.

Accompanied by Morata's father, Alfonso, Juanma López arrived at Real's club offices at around 12:00 CEST for further talks over the player's expected summer move to Manchester United, with the meeting lasting just under an hour.

Morata is widely reported in the UK to have agreed personal terms with United, with the only major stumbling block to the transfer remaining his fee.

Los Blancos are holding out for around 80 million euros for the centre-forward, who registered a fine goal return last season - 20 in 43 appearances in all competitions - despite being limited to just 19 starts.

However, the Premier League club have so far failed to meet Real's price tag for the Spain international.

Trump to raise taxes on wealthy

Trump's chief advisor Steve Bannon is causing a stir inside the administration by pushing an idea that's anathema to most Republicans: raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans to pay for steep middle and working-class tax cuts. (Some officials who've heard Bannon's idea think it's crazy, but the President's chief strategist believes it's a potent populist idea.)

Bannon has told colleagues he wants the top income tax bracket to "have a 4 in front of it." (The top bracket is currently 39.6% for Americans who earn more than $418,400.)

While all the public attention has been going to health care, Trump aides are teeing up an extremely aggressive tax plan.

Needless to say, raising taxes is anathema to Republicans. Trump's Cabinet is packed with people who would rather cut taxes on the wealthy than raise it. It remains to be seen if Bannon can get his way.

Sylvanus Yakubu Giwa finally Laid to Rest

Taraba state Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, has described late Sylvanus Yakubu Giwa as a hard working person who was committed to discharging responsibility assigned to with utmost diligence.
Governor Darius Ishaku said this at CRC-N No1Takum, during the funeral service of the deceased, saying that his dead was a great shock to him, particularly, when there wasn’t any visible signs of him being sick.
He told the congregation that on Thursday the 22nd of June, he gave him an assignment and shortly after he called to inform him that he has completed the task, stressing that he didn’t know that it was going to be their last interaction as partners working for the state.
He described late Sylvanus Giwa as a humble personality with great acumen and apt to duties assigned to him, adding that he was indeed a good and great man as well as a fulfilled and accomplished Journalist.
The Governor used the opportunity to appeal to the mother and his siblings to accept his demise in good faith, reminding them that the ways of man are not the ways of God as no mortal has the right to question his deeds.
He prayed for the repose of his soul and God’s comfort to the family and the government and people of Taraba state.
In his sermon, Rev. Joseph Kukwa admonished the congregation to desist from what he termed their evil and wicked ways, stating that the thought of man should be how to make heaven and not earthly possessions.
Rev. Joseph Kukwa maintained that most people busied themselves with the things of the world and relegating God to the background, not knowing that he is the author and finisher of everyone’s life.
Accordingly, the preacher said things have changed, explaining that in the past children bury their parents and not parents burning their children and challenged the congregation to always indulge in activities that would attract spiritual blessings and God’s mercies at all times.
The cleric who took his scriptural text from the book of Luke chapter 12:16-21, drew attention a biblical story where the rich got saturated with his wealth and forgot God that gave him the strength and riches, but God who owns the life said you fool, your life is needed this very hour.
He called on Christians to be conscious of this parable that was taught by Jesus Christ and stressed that, being obedient to the will of God should be uppermost in our lives as believers.
He lamented that most times people mourn during deaths and burials, but immediately after that, the wife and children are left to suffer, absolutely abandoned by the immediate families and friends, stressing that the love for the family of a deceased should transcend mourning and burial moments but should last forever.
The preacher encouraged the congregation to cultivate the attitude of giving assistance to the less privileged in the society to attract heavenly blessings.
Borned in November 1963, late Sylvanus Yakubu Giwa holds a master’s degree in International Relations and strategic studies from Benue state University and a Bachelor’s degree in English and literature from University of Maiduguri.
He was a seasoned broadcaster who started his broadcasting career in the then defunct Gongola state in 1987.
He equally worked as a teacher, a banker, senior correspondent to Channels and AIT Televisions and was the longest serving General Manager of Taraba Television Corporation, the first Senior Special Assistant who served three Governors and was popularly referred to as “Taraba’s Golden voice.”
Late Sylvanus Yakubu Giwa left behind his wife, three children, aged mother, and two brothers and a sister.
It would be recalled that late Sylvanus Giwa slumped in his office and finally submitted to the will of God at the Federal Medical Center Jalingo on Friday the 23rd of June this year.

He has since been buried according to Christian injunctions at his compound in Takum, Takum local government area.

Trump's climate stance could damage Earth: Hawking

Summarized News Update:

Stephen Hawking says that US President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate agreement could lead to irreversible climate change.Prof Hawking said the action could put Earth onto a path that turns it into a hothouse planet like Venus.

He said: "We are close to the tipping point where global warming becomes irreversible. Trump's action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of two hundred and fifty degrees, and raining sulphuric acid," he told BBC News. "Climate change is one of the great dangers we face, and it's one we can prevent if we act now. By denying the evidence for climate change, and pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, Donald Trump will cause avoidable environmental damage to our beautiful planet, endangering the natural world, for us and our children."

He also feared aggression was "inbuilt" in humans and that our best hope of survival was to live on other planets.

Summarized News Update:

The government is to end an arrangement that allows other countries to fish in UK waters, it has been announced. The convention allows Irish, Dutch, French, German and Belgian vessels to fish within six and 12 nautical miles of UK coastline.

Environment Secretary Michael Gove said the move would help take back control of fishing access to UK waters. The European Commission said it "took note" but felt the convention had been superseded by EU law. Ireland's minister for agriculture, food and the marine, Michael Creed, however, said it was "unwelcome and unhelpful".

"Brexit poses very serious challenges to the seafood sector and this announcement will form part of the negotiations," he said.

Draxler named Confederations Cup Player of the Tournament

Two of Germany's promising young stars were recognized for their part in an impressive Confederations Cup triumph, as Julian Draxler won the tournament's Golden Ball and Timo Werner collected the Golden Boot.

Draxler has reinvigorated his career by leaving Wolfsburg for Paris Saint-Germain in January and the 23-year-old attacking midfielder was named the player of the tournament after captaining his fellow youngsters to glory and pulling the strings in the final third.

Werner finished level on three goals apiece with team-mates Leon Goretzka and Lars Stindl, the latter the scorer of the only goal in the final at Krestovsky Stadium, but the RB Leipzig man claimed the Golden Boot outright thanks to his two assists.

Chile's Claudio Bravo failed to get his safe hands on the trophy and had to make do instead with the Golden Glove as goalkeeper of the tournament – a trio of penalty saves in the semi-final shoot-out victory over Portugal no doubt playing a key role.

In fact, it was Bravo's opposite number, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who was named Man of the Match in the final after the Barcelona goalkeeper pulled off a series of crucial saves.

Lacazette travels to London?

According to reports Lacazette is on his way to London to complete a permanent move to Arsenal, Lacazette  26, has scored over 20 Ligue 1 goals in each of his last three seasons for Lyon and will join Arsenal for a club record fee, eclipsing the £42.5m paid to Real Madrid to sign Mesut Ozil in 2013.

Lyon club president Jean Michel-Aulas, who sanctioned the transfer on Sunday, has previously said the Premier League side must part with €65million to prise Lacazette away from Parc Olympique Lyonnais and the newly agreed deal includes bonuses worth £6m.

France international Lacazette was close to joining Atletico Madrid before the Spanish club's transfer ban was upheld and Aulas confirmed via French news outlet Le Progres that Wenger's side did not want to pay over the odds for the forward.

The Gunners still hope to keep Olivier Giroud, although they are prepared to let Lucas Perez, who joined last August but scored only once in 11 Premier League matches, leave the north London club this summer.

Chile 0 Germany 1: Stindl seals glory for Germany team B

Germany's new generation confirmed their status as a future force to be reckoned with by beating a seasoned Chile 1-0 to win the Confederations Cup final in Russia on Sunday.

A rampant Chile dominated the opening exchanges, with Antonio Rudiger required to deny Charles Aranguiz inside the area in the fifth minute and Marc-Andre ter Stegen keeping out Arturo Vidal's follow-up effort.

It was Germany, though, who broke the deadlock, benefiting from a Diaz mistake to open the scoring against the run of play in the 20th minute. Attempting to turn under pressure on the edge of his box, the Celta Vigo player inadvertently gifted possession to Timo Werner, who forced goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to commit before squaring the ball for Stindl to pass into an unguarded net.

The result will come as a disappointment to Copa America holders Chile, who should have had enough guile and experience to come away with the trophy against a young team who struggled to match them in a 1-1 group stage draw.

Sex abuse UN peacekeepers hit by new llegations

Summarized News Update:

Data released late on Friday night also showed a new case of sexual exploitation was registered against Republic of Congo peacekeepers in the Central African Republic, less than 10 days after the UN announced the withdrawal of Congolese troops from the UN's mission over a string of allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse.

On Saturday, a UN spokesperson confirmed that a new allegation had been registered against the Congolese but declined to clarify if the recorded case of sexual exploitation took place before or after the stated withdrawal of the battalion.

"The allegation was recorded in June [...] an investigative process has been launched as per standard procedures," Sophie Boudre, a spokesperson for Department of Peacekeeping operations (DPKO), told Al Jazeera.

In early June, the New York-based Code Blue Campaign, dedicated to ending impunity for crimes of sexual exploitation and abuse by peacekeepers, released an internal UN memo that showed no action had been taken against the Congolese troops in CAR, despite multiple complaints about their behaviour.

In the leaked memo addressed to UN Headquarters, Lieutenant-General Balla Keita of Senegal, head of the UN peacekeeping force in CAR, wrote that he had sent six letters to the battalion commander in 2017 over alleged sexual abuse, fuel trafficking, and lack of discipline.
