Hausa broadcast: Buhari’s media team goofed, says Okupe
A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari’s media team for the controversy generated by the President’s Sallah message which was broadcast only in Hausa.
Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, had, in a statement on Saturday conveyed the message of the President to Nigerians while the BBC aired a recorded audio version of the message.
There had been reports in the social media claiming that the President was suffering from speech impairment and memory loss. The audio was intended to counter the narrative. However, Okupe said Buhari’s media aides should not have acted out of desperation. He further rejected the excuse that the broadcast was part of an interview Buhari had in Hausa with the radio station.
